CSK vs RCB IPL 2019 match report: Chennai starts with a comfortable win against Bangalore

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) ensured their title defense got off to start their campaign with a comfortable win with a dominant seven-wicket win over Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the opening match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) on 2019-03-23. s with both bat and ball as they bundled out Bangalore for just 70 runs before chasing down the total with 14 balls to spare.CSK chased down RCB with the 71-run target and seven wickets in hand in total 17.4 overs to winning start of their campaign. In this low-scoring game of RCB, Ambati Rayudu (28) top-scored for the hosts. Against CSK, spinners Yuzvendra Chahal (1-6) and Moeen Ali (1-19) took a wicket apiece.

Earlier in the game, CSK won the toss and went for bowl first. Dhoni and co started brilliantly reducing Bangalore to 39/4 after 8 overs thanks to a great opening spell by Harbhajan Singh who was also the man of the match and who finished with 3/20. The RCB batsmen had a poor shot selection on a track which gave an opportunity for a great purchase for the spinners. Parthiv Patel was the only batsman to record a double-digit score for RCB as the spinners wreaked destruction. It’s a scrappy start for RCB in IPL 2019.

Harbhajan Singh’s early spell and selection done by Dhoni’s team were the definite turning points of the game. Harbhajan sent back Virat Kohli, Moeen Ali and AB de Villiers by wicket out while giving away just 20 runs in his 4 overs. While Harbhajan’s magic spell in the field gave an early burst and put CSK firmly in the driver’s seat, Tahir’s spell broke the back of the RCB batting. Still, the spell caused by Tahir was absolutely dominant as he got the ball to turn sharply keeping batsmen guessing with his variations. He finished him over with figures of 4-1-9-3 with a breathtaking wicket-maiden in the 14th over.
